Island Tackle Carolina Beach NC
Island Tackle has proudly served the Cape Fear Coast and Pleasure Island since 1985 when it opened as a small community hardware. In 2000, two local residents, Dennis and Wanda Barbour, purchased the growing business. In 2008 they took it to the next level by expanding the Island Tackle facility and adding additional staff members.
Over the years the company has faithfully served both the area residents and vacationing visitors far beyond just the sale of basic hardware and fishing items. Island Tackle has become known for standing by during hurricanes and other natural disasters to aid the island residents in the recovery process. In over 35 years they have never left prior to or during a hurricane. At one time, the fire department even relocated temporarily in the garage of Dennis and Wanda’s in order to be available to the islanders.
Island Tackle is the hub of the area’s fishing community, from tackle and bait to becoming the busiest North Carolina Wildlife office weigh station. They can fill the needs of the novice angler to the very experienced fisherman. This busy hardware store also handles building products for anyone from corporate customers needing supplies, be it great or small, to the DIY customer undergoing a special project. Quality of products is their greatest priority as well as their relationships with their patrons.
Today, they continue serving the needs of the Carolina Beach and the Cape Fear Coast with great pride. Wes Barbour and wife Griffin, the son and daughter-in-law of Dennis and Wanda are now partners and oversee the day to day operation of Island tackle. Dennis enjoys running fishing charters, doing what he truly loves, and Wanda still helps oversee the business with her son and daughter-in-law. It’s a given we can count on this business being around for many years to come and continuing to serve the Cape Fear coast with the same commitment that have displayed over past years.
